Melissa Kruger on the Biggest Obstacle to Contentment Among Christian Women | Word First
Transcript
I think the biggest obstacle to Christian contentment among women is that we often set our hope in items or in people that were never actually intended to bear the weight of that hope. Um, the reality for us as women is we have an eternal thirst that can only be satisfied by an eternal God. And often we look for our satisfaction in lesser things. I like to think of a woman who is standing before the ocean and she is desperately thirsty and she takes a big glass of water and she reaches down and she wants to pick up that ocean water to drink. And all of us would immediately say, "No, don't drink from that." The ocean's a wonderful thing, it's a good thing. Um, you can swim in it, you can play in it, you can look at it, you can enjoy it, but it was never meant to sustain life. So, if she drinks of it, she will actually grow thirstier still. And in fact, if she keeps drinking, she'll die. And I think it's that way with the things of the world when we chase after the things of the world, even good things, things that are meant for our enjoyment, um, but we set our hope in them rather in the God who created all of those things, we're destined for discontentment. We'll find ourselves going from thing to thing, from person to person, always seeking contentment in items that were never never created to give it to us. So, we need daily to be going to Christ, finding ourselves in him, drinking from the living waters that are Christ himself. And then our souls are going to find the contentment that we so long for.
